CHICAGO BIDS FAREWELL TO PIONEERS! A small but enthusiastic band of seven Class of 1962 members (and two intrepid spouses) invaded Chicagoland in mid-August, leaving the city shaken but largely intact. "We dodged a bullet!" said Mayor Daley with a sigh of relief. "This was only their 45th. Can you imagine what it would have been like if it were their 50th?" It started innocently enough, on Friday, August 17, at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort, some 30 miles northwest of the Loop. From near (Illinois) and far (Washington, Minnesota and Georgia) the "7+2" gathered, the early arrivals biding their time on the golf course and in nearby shopping centers. Finally, in the late afternoon the group achieved a critical mass at the designated rendevouz spot (Ron Lemme's room), which was stocked with essential supplies (munchies and various liquid refreshments). Fri. Aug. 17: Meet informally for drinks, dinner at the hotel. Theatre at the resort has 8pm performance of a musical/comedy, Married Alive. Sat. Aug. 18: Golf at resort course or day in Chicago, including an Architectural River Tour, visit to Millennium Park, lunch and possibly shopping. In the evening, dinner for all at Buca di Beppo's. Sun. Aug. 19: Informal brunch at hotel. All activities (e.g. theatre, golf, Chicago tour) are optional and on a pay-as-you-go basis, so you can pick what interests you. We do need to know in advance, however, which activities you want to be included in so we can arrange for tickets. Ron Lemme recently sent out an email with details. If you did not receive it and are interested in joining us for what should be a fun weekend, please email Ron at the address below.
